Do you ever leave the house without a camera?
Like many, I always carry my smartphone with me. I use it as a kind of diary, make sketches and capture the things I face and explore each day.
At what age did you use a camera for the first time?
When I was 6 years old. It was a Polaroid camera that I got from my parents for Christmas. Ever since I have been fascinated with photography.
How did you work as a photographer and how long did it take for you to live off photography?
I got an education in photography and after that studied photo design in Dortmund. The next step led me to Berlin. I became an art buyer and a photo editor. After 6 years of permanent employment, I decided to work as a freelance photographer. My connections from the past years helped me to be able to live off self-deployment right away. It has been 5 years now since I took that step.
Do you prefer zoom or fixed focal length?
I often work with moving motifs and on-location. I see advantages in using a zoom for that because it always gives me the chance to find the right crop right away.
Which topics do you prefer to photograph?
I love corporate and lifestyle themes because here I can work with people. These topics combine my love for naturalness, report and advertorial photography.
And which ones do you dislike? And why?
Stills and studio photography. I just like it when things move. Standing in the studio and arrange everything to the ideal is just not me. I guess I’m not patient enough.
What was the biggest highlight of your photographer career?
My biggest highlight was to shoot my favorite actress from my teenager days, Felicitas Woll. We did a cover shooting for DB-Mobil. I was quite nervous and totally excited to find out that she is the lovely person that she was in her role as Lolle in „Berlin Berlin.“
Is there a distinctive look in your pictures?
My pictures are happy, loud and colorful. I like sharp and contrasty colors.
Without which aid or tool would you never want to photograph again?
Brighteners and flash, because there is no photo without good light.
What was your motivation to work with Westend61?
I knew Westend61 from my time as a photo editor and working with them has always been a good experience. That way I was sure my pictures are in the right hands.
