Tania Cervi\u00e1n is a bit of a Westend61-Newbie. The Spaniard surprised and convinced us with her powerful portraits of charismatic women. Alba Vitta sat down with her for an interview to introduce her a bit more to us and our readers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hey Tania, it\u2019s so nice to speak to you today. Tell us, who is Tania Cervi\u00e1n?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don’t know if I will manage to answer that one day in my life. \ud83d\ude09
But well, today, I would say that I am a woman passionate about photography, light, colors, and portraiture. I like the extraordinary beauty of small things, eternal chats, simplicity, and real people.\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When was the first time that you used a camera? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first photo I took was when I was about six years old. It was a portrait of my parents and my sister. After this, they gave me the typical analog camera as a present for the communion, and I enjoyed dressing up my little sister to take pictures of her. Since the development of analogical photos was expensive, I couldn’t walk around with the camera every day. From there, I went through some compact digital cameras. Over the years, and after my first job, I managed to save money to buy my first digital full-frame camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What kind of jobs do you do as a photographer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do a little bit of everything. But mainly face-to-face and online workshops, people photography (weddings, family sessions, books, etc.) and now stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the thing you enjoy the most to take photos of? And the least?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I enjoy the most is any session that is real, that moves me inside. It’s because of flickering light, amazing colors, a loving family, or a person who looks at the camera and stops the time for a little while.
The least – well, the routine photos that are made because I have to. Like those posed wedding shots, the typical images of the ceremony, or portraits with forced smiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you prepare for a photoshoot? What is your creative process from when you think of an idea until you develop it and finish it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I usually start with the person I take photos of. Who is that person, and how do I want to portray them? According to that, I already think about a location and the colors of the shooting. Also, the time, if I want direct or diffused light, etc. Once at the set, I go with the flow. I don’t usually take preconceived photos, but instead, I am \ufb02owing with the energy that arises during the photoshoot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What defines and distinguishes your photography?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don’t know if I should answer that myself! But according to what people tell me about the use of light, color, and expressiveness of the women I portray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has been a unique moment of a photoshoot that you had during your career?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, there have been many special moments! It is the best things that photography has: magical moments and the beautiful people that it brings into your life. 
One of the most special moments I remember was an afternoon when I did a session in an abandoned house during sunset. Without having foreseen it, a reflected ray of sun entered the room, and it was of incredible beauty, generating a super cinematic atmosphere. I remember taking the photos and when seeing them feeling so thrilled. It was a purely incredible afternoon, where I produced some of my favorite images to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you get into Westend61?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over talking to a fellow photographer from Granada – Javi S\u00e1nchez, who is a veteran of stock. I did a workshop with him, and he recommended applying to Westend61!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you make some distinction between your personal work and stock when creating images?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, not until recently. Most of my stock portfolio is from sessions that I have done in artistic workshops or photoshoots. Because that content does not sell much, I decided to do some more commercial sessions designed for stock. Due to the COVID-19 situation, I didn’t have much time, and I could only do two sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What plans do you have as a photographer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we ignore the crisis that has come with the Covid-19 pandemic, I would like to continue creating what I feel and what I am. I want to keep growing as a photographer, keep exploring, and experimenting.
 Also, I want to add a commercial touch to my work to increase my income with stock photography, as this allows me to continue creating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
