The streets of London are his source of inspiration
Angel Santana Garcia is at home in the global metropolis of London. His love of music brought the native Spaniard here before he also increasingly discovered photography for himself. Angel’s images are characterized above all by youth, dynamism and lifestyle. We would like to introduce him here today and have conducted an interview with him.

1. Tell us a little about yourself. Who are you? When did you start photography?
My name is Angel, and I’m originally from the Canary Islands in Spain. I’m a sound technician and guitarist. I moved to England back in 2016, looking for new experiences and job opportunities. I found my passion for photography while exploring the city. I started doing street photography and later fused it with music, photographing rookie rock bands in London.
What does London mean to you as a photographer?
This city is one of the first reasons I decided to pick up a camera and go out in the street. It is a major inspiration source for me. From the architecture to the immense diversity of people who live here, there’s always a reason for me to go out and take photos.
How did you get into the world of stock photography in particular?
Stock photography was something that I had heard about and tried to do back in 2018. I first tried with microstock but never really put much effort into it until the pandemic hit and I saw myself locked in my house. I decided to do some research to understand it better, and that’s when I started to feel motivated to improve my skills and get into this kind of photography.
What is your favorite theme to photograph?
I like ‘lifestyle’ photography because I love meeting new people for every shooting, and I like exploring different spots. There are always new parts of the city to discover for a shooting.

Do you follow other photography projects outside of stock photography?
As I mentioned before, I used to do quite a lot of street and concert photography, and that’s something I would like to go back to as soon as the music industry kicks off again.
Did the Covid 19 Pandemic affect the way you work? Do you take other pictures etc.?
I would say it is precisely what made me dive deeper into my work as a photographer. However, I don’t tend to take many pictures with this theme. I try for it to be occasional.

Tell us about one of your images on our portfolio – it could be anything. A story, a funny moment, or simply a photo you like a lot.
I like this image even though it’s not what you would usually find in my portfolio. It’s just a picture I took in one of my many walks through the city looking for some inspiration.

What made you start working with W61? What do you like the most?
It is a well-known company. Everyone in stock photography knows about it, and I am still surprised that I can collab with W61.
I love the closeness and the treatment that we, the photographers, get. It’s a hardworking but also very friendly environment. I feel like I can get my job done so much more quickly, and it’s hugely helpful to have an editor that gives you constant feedback to improve.

Let us know about your plans!
At the moment, I want to focus on keep growing with photography. I want to try new styles and improve the quality of my productions.
Is there something you want to say to photographers that want to start working in stock photography?
If you want to start, do it now. Even if you think you still have a lot to learn, do your research, be consistent, have patience and give it your best.
