Pau Novell – a cosmopolitan and his camera

Pau Novell lives in Barcelona but he is at home out in the world. He dropped out of his job to travel the world with his camera. In his own words, he takes photos to immortalize people and places so they never escape his memory. He wants to share those memories with the spectators of his images. Hey Pau! Thank you for taking your precious time to tell us a little about yourself. Let’s jump right to it. When did you know that you want to be a photographer?

Hi Westend61! First of all, thank you for allowing me to present myself and my work. I hope it will be interesting and inspiring for other photographers.
I started in 2017, thanks to my girlfriend Nel. She gave me her parent’s camera on our first big trip to Thailand. Ever since then, my passion for photography has only increased.

Your homepage states that you gave up your bonds to start traveling. Tell us, what does a perfect day in the life of Pau look like? Including work 😉

I left my previous job thanks to photography to dedicate more time to travel. I am lucky that Nel is a flight attendant. That way, we can minimize the costs of many trips. Therefore, a perfect day for me is to travel with the camera and enjoy the spectacle of this planet.

Your imagery is full of charismatic faces. Tell us how you get in touch with your models. What are you looking for?

I contact most of the models through social networks, and I am mainly looking for new faces with a special something.

This is probably not my best photo, but I have chosen it because the 3 things I like the most are her, traveling (we were in London) and photography, of course.

Where do you seek or find inspiration for your creative work?

I often find inspiration in the cinema or in series. Also, I often go on Instagram and the Westend61 homepage. Those are pretty good sources of inspiration. I would like to add a fact of my creative process. Before each shooting, I take a blank sheet of paper and write down all the crazy ideas that come to my mind. In fact, the crazier, the better!

Can you name a context in which you would love to see one of your images? For example, a certain campaign, business, or market.

I would like to see a photo of me on a giant banner in the Corte Inglés in Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona. The truth is, about anywhere, I would be very excited.

Last but not least. We’d like you to highlight a photo or production from our portfolio that inspires you. Why does it?

All the images of this shooting seem crazy to me, the astronaut outfit, the atmosphere, the colors… I love it! The truth is that Eugenio has an incredible talent. He is a true artist!
