Inspiring Images – Nanihta Vazquez
Nanihta Vazquez stands for unconventional stock photography. The photographer from Burgos in Spain sees her images in constant evolution because standing still is not her thing. In doing so, she is always looking for new creative approaches. In our new series “Inspiring Images,” she tells us more about her journey into stock photography and about images that inspire her herself.

Hi Nanihta, for a first impression please describe yourself and your work in 3 Words.
Mood, Artist, and Color.
What life lesson did photography teach you?
Photography taught me about freedom – a new way of life with my time, perspective, laws, and views. It’s about my voice. To fight for a life with no bosses, with no rules, with no office or routines.
How did you get into stock photography?
I started when I was in college. I studied psychology and needed money to pay my bills as I lived on my own at a young age. My mother always helped me, but I tried to think about my future. I always loved taking photos, and stock photography opened the possibility to profit from my hobby.

What is your favorite picture, and why?
I took this photo on the day of my daughter’s birth. I am a photographer, and I want to document as many memories as possible, even when you might think less about photography. Of course, I had my camera with me in the hospital. I was tired, confused, and as my daughter was born during the first wave of Covid-19, this was not how ma and my boyfriend imagined the moment, yet it was beautiful.

For which image did you have to go out of your comfort zone?
Definitely, Vista Collection shooting in a swimming pool in November. You can imagine the water was freezing cold. But, that was the only sunny day in weeks, so we had to go out and get in the work for the result we wanted. Upfront, I focused, breathed deeply, and went through the concept several times. Once in the water, I just worked through my imaginary list of poses and got it done.

What is the one photo you want to take by any means?
Another underwater image. I would love to jump on a submarine, dive deep and take a photo of a jellyfish swarm.

I guess I miss being a teen sometimes. Things were a bit more exciting and new. I was simply more spontaneous. This image by Retales Botijero is so fresh, so inspirational. When I look at it, I feel the need to take out my camera and meet new people. I love taking images of people’s most spontaneous moments. At the end of the day, we all have a memory to share with the people closest to us.
