Little Escapes From Everyday Life

We all know those moments when we want to scream out loud, “Stop the world! I want to get off!” These are the days that leave a bad taste in our mouth, the days when nothing works out or when everything is just too much. It’s clear in these moments that we need time off, and we should take it as a matter of urgency so that we don’t at some point run out of battery.

But the time off doesn’t have to involve hitchhiking to India. Rather, taking a deep breath, taking a step back, and looking at everyday life from a healthy distance can help immediately. And above all, do something good for yourself, no matter how small. Little escapes from everyday life are vital for all of us. After all, humans are not machines, but highly complex living beings that consist not only of flesh and blood, but also have souls. It’s not only our bodies that need to be cared for and nourished, but also our inner states of mind. As diverse as people are, so, too, are their methods for kicking everyday stress to the curb. The goal is always the same: to find an island of calm in the hectic hustle and bustle of life with all its demands and obligations, where we can be ourselves and recharge our batteries for the next round on the hamster wheel.

Take Time for Yourself

The complexity and fast pace of our digitalized and synchronized existence is exciting and colorful, but it can also be a burden. This is all the more true in times like these, when we are incessantly confronted with the effects of the Covid global crisis, and the deluge of disturbing news seems to have no end in sight. Those are the moments when it’s good to unplug, relax, and reflect, so that you can regain your sense of confidence.

In our search for “great happiness,” we often forget that this longed-for state is ultimately the sum of many small moments of happiness. Unfortunately, in our hurried and hectic pace, we too often fail to enjoy these moments properly, or even consciously perceive them. One thing these moments have in common—what whatever they may look like for each individual—is that you have to take a little time for yourself.

This is not selfishness or laziness, but rather a sign of self-appreciation.  Psychologists have coined the term “self-care.” Those who have learned to listen to their inner voice can take better care not only of themselves, but also of their fellow human beings. But in order to hear this voice, we first have to clear our heads of the constant background noise of the loud world around us.

Strong Images of Short Time-Outs

Surely most of you have (perhaps unconsciously) your own individual, favorite methods for getting away from the hustle and bustle for a moment and just “switching off.” But visualization (i.e., a vivid idea of a desired state) can also do us good. And even better, of course, are beautiful images. That’s why we have put together this Lightbox for you. It shows strong photos of people who are at peace with themselves because they don’t have to, don’t want to, and don’t represent anything; they are simply there and enjoying the moment. Let’s imitate them!
