The world is constantly changing. This is more true than ever in the digital age, where the only constant seems to be constant change. This always has an influence on our image of life – and therefore also on the visual trends in stock photography. At Westend61, we always strive to keep our finger on the pulse of the times. We want to know as early as possible where the image journey is heading in the new year. And we want to show our customers and photographers how they can take advantage of these trends.

Our trend report for 2025 focuses on the two major topics of “technology” and “society”. We believe that the interaction between people and technology is an inexhaustible field of photographic design. It not only has incalculable creative potential, but also offers plenty of material for effective image communication in advertising, PR and public relations.

Nothing works without technological innovations. But we also have to ask ourselves: How, where and when do we want to use technology sensibly without letting it control us? Where does it increase everyone’s benefit and where does it possibly cause harm? These are questions that are becoming increasingly important in view of the rapid development of AI and robotics. But the environmentally friendly organization of mobility and the energy industry, and thus the existential requirements of a modern society, is also one of the major issues of the present day.

At the same time, society and the way we live are changing. The average age of people is constantly increasing. This has a variety of effects: not only on the demands on medicine and care, but also on lifestyles and consumer behavior. A development to which a modern visual language must respond.
The world of work, as a central area of life, is also undergoing major change as a result of digital progress. Working from home and remote work are just the most visible aspects of a new understanding of work that can be summarized under the term “new work”. Urbanization continues and reinforces the desire to redesign coexistence in large cities: more sustainable, more relaxed and, in short, more liveable.
